On Martin Luther King National Day of Service, people came together to volunteer with Volunteer Fairfax's Give Together Day. There were many different facilities to volunteer around Fairfax County to volunteer with your family. One of the places was the JCCNV.
There people made scarfs, cards, bracelets, decorated bags, and reflected on their day:
- People made knot scarves for people that are homeless. This was through FACETS. The kids took a piece of fleece. They measured, cut, and knotted.
- Kids also made bracelets for people in the hospitals. This was through the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV).
- Cards were made for the troops with AMillionThanks.org.
- There were also bags being decorated for children in hospitals. This
was through the Sunshine Mail Foundation.
There were hundreds of kids. Camern, age 9 from Fairfax "came to volunteer."
Ella, age 9 from Vienna was there because her "girl scout troup is helping." She said her favorite activity was making scarves.

At the end everyone reflected on their day. They reflected on how they helped others. They made a little heart person.
You should really try this event out next year. I recommend this for kids of all ages who are looking for ways to give back in their community. Everyone had tons of fun!
