Police Arrest Man After 1 Dead, 2 Shot in Annandale

Police have a suspect in custody after neighbors spent more than an hour sheltering in place.

Police warned people near the 3400 block of Beverly Drive in Annadale to stay in their homes after a SWAT team swarmed a quiet neighborhood in Annandale where a gunman opened fire, shooting at least two people and killing at least one.

"The preliminary investigation has determined that a man apparently wounded two adults at the home," Fairfax Police said in a statement, indicating the call came in at 1:28 p.m. "Patrol officers, SWAT, K-9, the police helicopter (Fairfax 1) and other police assets responded and set up a perimeter. Personnel from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department also responded.

"Arriving officers observed a man deceased outside the home, in the yard. While conducting a search for the suspect, SWAT officers located a second victim, an adult female, inside the home," the statement added. "The suspect, an adult male, was also located inside the home and taken into custody."

Neighbors were warned to shelter in place for more than an hour while the investigation continued.

Fairfax County Dispatch initially indicated on Twitter that one person was dead and three had been shot: a child, an elderly grandmother, and the suspect's partner. However, this most recent report suggests that only two had been shot, and both were adults.

Dispatch tweeted at 2:21 p.m. that two victims had been removed from the home with non-life-threatening injuries.
