The Historic Sydenstricker Schoolhouse will celebrate National Miniatures Month by hosting a special exhibition presented by Mount Vernon Miniatures with an exhibit and vintage dollhouse auction.&nbsp; The event is free, open to the public, and offers an immersive look into a fascinating craft that captivates creators and collectors of all ages. Free parking is available on-site and at the church parking lot directly across the street.
·The exhibition will showcase an extraordinary collection of work by local miniature artisans, spanning a diverse array of scales, styles, and media. Visitors will see highly detailed displays, including tiny secret gardens, a lush conservatory, a sweeping Venetian villa, formal room displays, stylized shops, and a charming collection of themed cottages. Guests will marvel at the smallest details, including exquisite dollhouses scaled to fit inside other miniature houses, fully functioning tiny appliances, micro-instruments, miniature toys, and even an operating, tiny model train set.
·In addition to viewing the displays, attendees can explore the rich history and evolution of the miniatures craft. A dedicated hands-on activity table will invite guests of all ages to assemble their own miniature model of the historic schoolhouse to take home. Representatives from the Mount Vernon Miniatures Club will be available to answer questions, share techniques, and discuss their ongoing activities.
·For those looking to kick-start their own collection or find distinctive holiday gifts, a variety of miniature items will be available for purchase.
·A highlight of the event is the official launch of a benefit auction featuring a stunning, vintage dollhouse, which will be on display. The collectible, fully electrified dollhouse has been beautifully restored, and furnished by a professional interior designer in collaboration with the miniatures club. The auction opens for bids on October 3rd, with all proceeds supporting the ongoing preservation and restoration of the schoolhouse as it approaches its landmark 100th birthday in 2028. Additional auction details will be available at the venue.

Haven of Northern Virginia Inc

Haven is a nonprofit, nonsectarian community organization of trained volunteers that offers emotional support to the bereaved, the seriously ill, the dying and to their families and friends. Haven also provides education to the community about the needs of those who are grieving.
Since September 1976 Haven volunteers have helped individuals work through their grief, offering comfort and support by sharing insights, resources and techniques that encourage recovery and healing. Haven offers individual support to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one from suicide. Support is conducted by trained volunteers, not therapists. No cost to attend. Players at this level should be able to:
<ul><li>Play 4 games per hour</li><li>Play at a fast, competitive pace</li><li>Quickly identify winning hands in every category, pivot between lines, call tiles and track discards</li></ul>
B Flight, the "Trot" Flight
Players at this level should be table to:
<ul><li>Play 2-3 games per hour</li><li>Play at a steady, relaxed pace</li><li>Play and pivot between familiar lines and attempt less familiar lines</li><li>Decide whether to claim a discarded tile after a brief pause</li></ul>

Tournament Format
<ul><li>Round 1 - All players are randomly seeded across tables, within their flights.</li><li>Rounds 2 &amp; 3: Players are matched based on their performance in the prior rounds.</li><li>The top finisher in each flight at the end of all rounds wins.</li></ul>
