Driver Leads Police On Wild Chase In Annandale

ANNANDALE, VA—A Washington, DC man has been charged after leading police on a wild chase and ramming into two police cruisers in Annandale Saturday. Police say no one was injured during the pursuit.

Around 4:50 p.m., an officer noticed a car speeding and driving recklessly near the intersection of Little River Turnpike and Columbia Rd. The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver fled and began a chase.

Other officers arrived to assist, and the suspect began driving in the opposite lane of travel on Little River Turnpike. The car returned to the right side of the road but ended up making a U-turn and hitting a police car almost head-on near Pinecrest Vista Drive.

But the driver wasn't giving up. He returned to driving on the wrong side of Little River Turnpike. Officers used the precision immobilization technique, which left the driver's car spinning, but he regained control and hit another police car. Police were successful at blocking the car, but the suspect fled on foot.

Police found and arrested him nearby. Edward Jerome Butler Jr., 32, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor hit and run, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, window tint violation, resisting arrest, attempted malicious wounding, assault on a law enforcement officer, felony hit and run, and felony speed to elude. He is currently being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
