Elderly Man Dies In Early Morning Annandale Fire

ANNANDALE, VA—An elderly man died early New Year's morning after a fire broke out at a home in Annandale.

Firefighters responded to the fire in the 4900 block of Columbia Road around 4:20 a.m. During a search inside, firefighters found Lewis C. Spessard, 94, who had died of injuries from the fire.

Alexandria firefighters also responded to the scene when it progressed to a two-alarm fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
