EOA Artist Reception for "Photographs by Jim Stephenson"

We are so pleased to be exhibiting the work of Jim Stephenson, of CJ Photography during the month of October. Jim's photographs are crisp, clear and accessible, drawing the viewer in. Join us on Saturday, October 20th, from 7-9pm to meet Jim in person, enjoy some fine art, coffee, and conversation. To whet your appetite, here's Jim's Artist Statement. Here's what Jim has to say about his photography passion:

It has been said that photography begins more with the camera than the photo, to play with the controls and knobs. But at some point it becomes more about the final result, the photo itself, than anything else.

I began with, yes, an Argus C3 that belonged to my stepfather. It was so much fun to change the controls and turn the knobs and see what would be the end result of the photo. As time passed the camera became only a means to the end, and the passion became the photo, the image now on paper to show what inspired me to take the photo in the first place.

I have taken pictures most of my life,  but it has not always been with the same passion I have for the last ten years or so. Although I have been taking photos for some forty plus years, it is not what I did for a living. We do not think about it when we are younger, but life is so short. We rush through life to go where?  Most do not take the time to look around and see the beauty or oddity that is before them or sometimes behind them. With my retirement I pursued my passion and with that C J Photography was born.  I now take the time to look around.  Although I do weddings, events and portraits, it’s my own visions that bring me the most enjoyment and satisfaction.

This sampling of my work reaches from Trains, as with “Number Sixty of the Central Pacific Railroad” and the “Train Station at Harpers Ferry”, to the eye and horn of a Bison in “I'm Watching You.”

My hope is that you will in looking at the photos get some of the same feelings or passion I got while taking them.
