The current show at Beanetics is a group show featuring three friends who have been painting together for years. For all three, this show is their debut exhibit, and it is well worth seeing!
Artists’ Statement
We are three artists who inspire each other; we have been painting together for 8 years. We paint as a way to express ourselves; at the same time, we believe we create art that is pleasing to the “eye of the beholder.” We paint to express our thoughts, feelings, and ideas about the beauty of the colorful world around us. We like the observer to visit the places or view the objects we paint.

Yolanda Saenz-Atkins was born in Brownsville, Texas. In 1972 she moved to northern Virginia and, after receiving a degree in Early Childhood Education at George Mason University, began teaching kindergarten/first grade at Kings Park Elementary in Springfield. After teaching for 15 years, she retired from the Fairfax County Public Schools. In 2006 she found the time to embark on a journey toward developing her love and passion for the arts. She found support and guidance when she met Nancy Jung, her art teacher and mentor. After three years of studying under Nancy’s tutelage, she has developed a creative body of work using a variety of techniques—but mostly using her favorite medium, oils. In addition to painting and playing with her grandchildren, Yolanda stays active in her community by serving as president of the Friends of Pohick Library. She plans to continue her work as an artist by exploring and expressing her creativity through her paintings.
Cindi Kurtz took 2 years off work when her husband was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio in 1999. She finally had the time to join Brush and Pallette, where she learned charcoal , pastels, and watercolor. When she moved back to northern Virginia, she started taking oil classes with Nancy Jung in 2002 and has been there ever since! “It truly is my therapy!”

Sabiha Malik has a degree in Arts and a diploma in Interior Decoration and Window Display. For the past 15 years she has worked with three international and national companies as a visual coordinator. She also has taught art to children at a Montessori school. “Nature has always inspired me, and to me the universe is like a huge canvas or palette filled with colors. My canvas and colors are my life. When I am working with paint it gives me a lot of positive energy and pleasure. I would like to thank my teacher Nancy, who makes our thoughts come out in colors instead of words.”
