FCPS: No School Friday Due to Flooded Roads
Road closures due to flooding have closed public schools during the first week of school.
UPDATE:
This just in from FCPS: All Fairfax County public schools will be closed Friday, Sept. 9. The following activities in schools and on school grounds are canceled:
• extracurricular activities
• interscholastic contests
• team practices
• field trips
• middle school after-school programs
• professional learning and training courses
• all adult and community education classes
• recreation programs
- School Age Child Care (SACC) centers are closed.
- Offices are open with an unscheduled leave policy in effect.
- Emergency personnel are to report to work.

Heavy rains and flooding brought on by Tropical Storm Lee socked Northern Virginia Thursday, delivering a knock-out blow to the area's creeks and rivers just as commuters were heading home.
Due to many flooded roadways overrun with water all over the county Thursday night, Fairfax County Public Schools decided that schools will be closed on Friday, according to reports from WTOP.

As of Thursday night, access to the eastbound Capital Beltway (I-495 Outer Loop) was blocked at the Mixing Bowl in Springfield, due to high standing water.
Cars that attempted to get on the Outer Loop coming from I-95 or I-395 were blocked at the Mixing Bowl and forced to reroute. Cars that were already on the Outer Loop coming from Tyson's Corner were being rerouted.
