Food Truck Delivers Meals To Annandale High School Students

SevaTruck regularly visits schools with a significant portion of students eligible for free or reduced lunch.

From SevaTruck: A food truck equipped with a commercial kitchen, SevaTruck goes where there is a need for warm meals. SevaTruck regularly visits schools in the Washington, DC metro area that have a Title 1 status - meaning 40% or more of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch - and provides free meals to the students.

On Nov. 28, SevaTruck visited Annandale High School (photo available here). Approximately 200 children were served delicious vegetarian meals using food products courtesy of Elevation Burger, which donated veggie burgers, buns, cheese and produce.

ā€œSevaTruck and its volunteers make a significant impact on children and adults in the DC metro area who may have limited access to a warm, nutritious meal,ā€ says Michael Berger, founding partner of Elevation Burger. ā€œI learned about the organization when their food truck visited my children’s school, Tyler Elementary in Southeast DC, and I knew immediately that we needed to find a way for Elevation Burger to support their efforts."

Berger continues, "SevaTruck is currently partnered with local food banks, shelters, schools, and assistance programs, and it is our hope that more DC-area restaurants will hear about this impactful organization and join us in donating products for their future meals.ā€

Sonny Kakar created the SevaTruck Foundation as a nonprofit organization to help carry out his commitment to the concept of ā€œSeva,ā€ a Punjabi word that means ā€œInspired to Serve.ā€ Kakar is the founder and CEO of Fairfax-based Sevatec, an advanced technology company designing solutions that keep U.S. borders secure, roads safe and government data protected from cyber threats.
