UPDATE: Police ID Man Found Dead in Annandale Who May Have Died from Hypothermia
Police say the man, possibly homeless, was found in a wooded area near a busy intersection. A citizen called police.

UPDATE Friday 6:45 p.m.: Detectives have identified the deceased man as Jose Florentino Vasquez Marquez, 50, of Alexandria Va. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Medical Examiner. Detectives do not suspect foul play.

ANNANDALE, VA -- A man found dead Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area near a busy intersection in Annandale may have been homeless and succumbed to the elements, according to Fairfax County Police.
The National Weather Service shows that the lowest temperature Wednesday morning was 23 degrees, with a wind chill of 8 degrees, at 4:52 a.m.

There were no overt signs of foul play and there was no apparent threat to public safety, police said Thursday.
On Wednesday, shortly before 1 p.m., a citizen reported what police called āa suspicious man, possibly sleeping in a small, wooded area near the intersection of Route 236 and Annandale Road.ā The area is near a busy intersection in Annandale (see map below).
Responding officers located the man and determined that he was deceased, police said. The medical examiner will determine cause and manner of death. The manās identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.The investigation continues.

The Hypothermia Prevention Program in Fairfax County, which includes collaborative work of area faith communities, civic organizations, businesses, and volunteers served 1,061 guests in the winter of 2014-2015 and assisted with moving 64 clients into permanent housing.
