Man Sentenced For Hate Crime Against Jewish Community Center

A man who vandalized a Jewish center with swastika and posted anti-Semitic fliers on a campus will serve 21 months in jail.

ANNANDALE, VA—A man will spend 21 months in jail for hate crimes against a Jewish center and church in Annandale and posting anti-Semitic fliers last year. Dylan Mahone, 21, was also sentenced to eight years of probation and 200 hours of community service, among other orders, WTOP reported.

Mahone previously pleaded guilty to three counts of felony destruction of property, placing a swastika on religious property with the intent to intimidate, and wearing a mask in public to conceal one’s identity.

Fairfax County Police arrested Mahone two days after the vandalisms were reported in April 2017. County police did a joint investigation with police at Northern Virginia Community College, where he was accused of posting anti-Semitic fliers on the NVCC campus in March 2017.

Fairfax County Police identified Mahone as the suspect through video footage of the incident at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia. The other place of worship, Little River United Church of Christ, was vandalized with anti-Christian graffiti.
