Neighbors Back Jewish Community Center After Vandalism

The community center said it has received kind words and donations to remove the swastika graffiti.

ANNANDALE, VA—After an unknown person vandalized the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia with over a dozen swastika, the community has rallied to speak out against the hate crime.

The JCC said in a statement there has been an "outpouring of support" since the graffiti appeared Saturday. Board president David Yaffe told WTOP the JCC has gotten numerous calls, emails and visits from elected officials.

"We are touched by the outpouring of support by the community to help remove the graffiti from the building or to make a donation to help cover its cost," reads the statement posted on Facebook Saturday. "Thank you to everyone who has offered your kind words and support of solidarity against hate."

Other gestures included chalk drawings with positive messages for the Jewish community.

The outside of the JCC had 19 swastika painted on, according to WTOP. Police are investigating and hope to identify and charge a suspect.
