New Pelican Seafood Restaurant Opens in Annandale

Another new restaurant has made its way into Annandale’s borders. , at 7327 Little River Turnpike between and , is a new dine-in and carryout restaurant that specializes in seafood, Szechuan and Hunan cuisine.

According to Manager John Ouwang, the restaurant opened on Sunday after three months of construction. The patio area is still being finished (just in time for the warmer weather). In honor of their grand opening, Pelican Seafood is offering a 20 percent discount on all orders for the next two weeks.

There are several restaurants in Annandale with similaries to Pelican Seafood, but owner Eddie Li is confident residents will enjoy the restaurant because of its unique focus on steamed crab.

“You can’t find anything like it around here,” said Li.

Li and his family are no strangers to the restaurant business. They’ve owned restaurants since 1993, including the Hong Kong Express restaurants. This is the first Pelican Seafood restaurant location they’ve opened. The restaurant is named after the Pelican charter yacht, which Li is an investor in. The Pelican offers tours along the Potomac River.

In addition to steamed crab, Ouwang and Li said the noodle soup dishes are worth trying. A large wonton noodle soup starts at $6.95 and costs up to $8.95 for a seafood noodle soup. Other selections from the menu at Pelican Seafood include lo mein, fried rice, and beef, chicken, and pork dishes.

Of the seafood selections at the restaurant, Pelican Seafood has shrimp dishes such as curry shrimp for $10.95 for a large or shrimp with mixed vegetables or hunan shrimp. There are also several fried seafood platters that cost $8.95-$9.95 for calamari, tilapia or flounder fish, oysters, or scallops. The platters come with French fries and cole slaw.

Pelican Seafood is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Sat from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. Orders can be placed by calling 703-354-9888 or 703-354-9898.
