NoVA Pharmacists Win Special Honors In SingleCare's 'Best of the Best Pharmacy Awards'

NORTHERN VIRGINIA — Two pharmacists who live in Annandale and Leesburg won top awards from SingleCare, a prescription savings service, in the company’s third annual "Best of the Best Pharmacy Awards."

Annandale resident Triet (Tony) Nguyen, R.Ph., who works at the Safeway on Little River Turnpike, was chosen for the “Above and Beyond" for going the “extra mile for his customers,” including making regular medication deliveries to people who cannot make it into the pharmacy or people who cannot wait to receive prescriptions by mail, SingleCare said.

“I live in Fairfax, not far away from the pharmacy, and I pass through a lot of the neighborhoods where our customers live anyway, so I offer to deliver to them,” Nguyen said in a statement. “I even bring flu shots or shingles vaccines to some customers, like the ones who can't go out or they're immobilized at home.”

One customer accidentally left his credit card at the pharmacy, and Nguyen went to the customer’s house to return the credit card. “He was so grateful. He became a customer of our pharmacy after that,” Nguyen said.

Leesburg resident Sidrah Alam was given the “Best Up and Coming Pharmacist” award from SingleCare for dedication to her community and patients, even while taking classes as a pharmacy student.

Alam’s grandfather owned a pharmacy in Pakistan. When he was diagnosed with cancer, she saw how the oncology pharmacists had an immediate impact on his care.

Alam’s grandfather showed her that pharmacists do not just put pills in bottles, but that they help patients in many other ways. She currently works at the Wegmans Pharmacy on Crosstrail Blvd. east of Leesburg.

From thousands of nominations, SingleCare's 2021 Best of the Best Pharmacy Awards honored 10 pharmacists, 10 pharmacy technicians and five pharmacy teams.

SingleCare launched the Best of the Best Pharmacy Awards in 2019. Each year, SingleCare asks customers to nominate their favorite people at the pharmacy, whether it’s the pharmacist, the pharmacy technician, or the whole staff.
