Photos: Inside the New Mason Crest Elementary School

The elementary school is hosting open houses throughout June for parents and community members.

Parents, students and Annandale residents now have the opportunity to tour the new located at 3705 Crest Dr.

Principal Brian Butler and his staff opened their doors to the public this week, offering tours inside the two-story K-5 school.

The school, whose mascot is the Tigers and colors are red and black, will feature two School Aged Child Care (SACC) rooms, two Head Start rooms, math and reading specialists, two art rooms, a kiln room, a vocal and band room, a computer room and a reading room.

Each classroom will have a smartboard and projector, as well as a built-in soundsystem that will allow teachers to use a microphone to communicate with students inside their classrooms.

In addition to the outdoor basketball courts, there will be a playground built in the next few weeks.

According to Butler, school enrollment is currently around 550-600 students — higher than the projected target of 475 students. However, there are only 10 fifth-graders currently enrolled.

Mason Crest students will come from , Beech Tree Elementary School, and . Butler said those students will have the option to remain at those schools to finish out the year.

Most of the staff positions have been filled, but Butler said even though he recently completed his 178th interview, they are still hiring.

The open house schedule for the month of June is:

9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on June 7, June 12, June 14, June 19 and June 21

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 16.

Mason Crest is scheduled to open in September.
