Several boats will advance to nationals

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology's crew team finished third on Saturday at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Championships at Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax.

The girls' first eight placed just behind T.C. Williams with a time of 4:58.8 and Madison High School won with a time of 4:54.1. The second eight also placed third clocking in at 5:11.5, again behind Madison and T.C. who took first and second, respectively. Both have accepted bids to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship Regatta, held on Memorial Day weekend in Camden, N.J.

Junior girls’ eight came in third at 5:22.9 and have accepted a bid to nationals while boys’ junior eight took fifth in 4:43.4. The TJ boys’ first eight came in fourth with a time of 4:32.7 behind Yorktown’s 4:31.5.

St. Alban's boys first eight took the title in their division, followed by Westfield and Yorktown High Schools.
