Accomplished Jazz keyboardist gives a concert for the benefit of Youth Jazz Musicians! Live Music at the Carlyle Club!

ANNANDALE, VA -- Nationally acclaimed jazz keyboardist Marcus Johnson is set to take the stage the evening of June 6, 2015 at the newly renovated Carlyle Club in Alexandria, VA (2050 Ballenger Ave., Alexandria, VA 22314) for the benefit of Virginia Music Adventures Inc. (VMA), a non-profit educational organization that promotes the preservation of American jazz through performances by exceptional young musicians.

The evening’s musical lineup includes performances by Johnson, who thrills audiences with his cutting-edge style of contemporary jazz, and VMA’s own Annandale Jazz Ambassadors, whose big band sounds and improvisational style harken back to the height of the Jazz Age. Purchase tickets here. The combination of contemporary and classic jazz performed by an acclaimed professional and professionals-in-the-making support VMA’s goals to teach the rhythms and articulations of jazz to young musicians and to connect with established musicians.

“I am thrilled to be performing on behalf of VMA,” said the Billboard-ranked Johnson. “I want to put the spotlight on this phenomenal group of young musicians and encourage them to dream big in their musical aspirations. I also hope that jazz lovers everywhere will be inspired to support VMA’s mission to develop the next generation of jazz artists from this area.”

Johnson got his own start as a student musician at Montgomery County’s Blair High School, then went on to musical and academic success at Howard University and Georgetown University, where he earned undergraduate, law, and business degrees. Johnson has released 15 successful studio albums and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award, and for Best Urban Contemporary Instrumentalist in the Washington Area Music Association’s WAMMIES in 2013.

Virginia Music Adventures, now in its 36th year, educates young musicians ranging in age from 11-18 to develop their skills as performers of jazz and swing-era classics. Students perform music and community service for youth programs, music festivals, non-profit organizations, and senior groups in the greater Washington, D.C. area and abroad. The Annandale Jazz Ambassadors is one of four programs sponsored by VMA, and has most recently performed as special guests at the Next Generation Monterey Jazz Festival, in addition to performances in Salvador, Johannesburg, Vienna, Budapest, Istanbul, St. Petersburg, Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, Lima, and Sydney, among other global locations.
