St. Alban's Concert: Brass of Peace Presents a World of Delight
Gather the entire family, especially the children, and join us for the golden sounds of Brass of Peace on Sunday, Apr 12, 4:00 pm.
The Brass of Peace will perform on this Sunday, Apr 12, 4:00 pm, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church at 6800 Columbia Pike. This select, auditioned group of local high school students will perform a wide range of music, chosen to appeal to diverse tastes. The concert will include pieces by Gabrieli, Beethoven, Mahler, John Williams, Mendelssohn, Wagner and Sousa…composers of many styles and nations. Throughout the concert, a section member will deliver a brief instruction on his or her instrument, and demonstrate its particular sound.
Directed by Sylvia Alimena, recently retired second hornist with the National Symphony Orchestra, Brass of Peace performs regularly in school and church venues in Northern Virginia and DC. These talented musicians move on to universities well known for their musical programs (e.g., Curtis Institute of Music, Eastman School of Music, New England Conservatory, and The Juilliard School). Beyond college, the alums continue their musical careers in many esteemed orchestras, national and throughout the world; and some have made their names as soloists, such as renowned international trumpeter Rex Richardson. This is your opportunity to hear professionals in the making!
The concert is free. Please stay for refreshments and socialization with the performers. For more information, contact the St. Alban’s church office at 703-256-2966.
