Thomas Jefferson Runners Come In Fourth, Fifth at Penn Relays
Boys and Girls Teams do well in 4x100 and 4x400 heats.
PHILADELPHIA -- Before Cole Rosenberg transfers to a high school in Maryland, he has received something to remember from his time at Thomas Jefferson.
The sophomore runner participated with teammates at the Penn Relays—the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States—and stepped on the same surface as Jesse Owens, Carl Lewis and Usain Bolt, the reigning fastest man in the world.
Because he has a parent in the Air Force, Rosenberg will move to Hammond High School, in Columbia, Md., for his junior year.

"This is amazing," Rosenberg said, looking out at a stadium filling up for Saturday's marquee events. "This is probably my only experience doing this and I loved it. Being with all these incredible athletes...wow."
Held at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field in Philadelphia since 1895, the hallowed competition attracts more than 15,000 participants in more than 300 events. More than 100,000 people typically attend the three days worth of races, with more than half coming on Saturday for the championship competitions and events that match up the world's best athletes.

Rosenberg anchored a 4x400 relay team of Tim Tran, Sean Long and Raeford Penny to a time of 3:36.70, fourth place in their heat.
The Lady Colonials ran in the 4x100 and 4x400 races. Ronit Malka, Cheyanne Rivera, Margaret Coad and Tania Ermak finished fifth in their heat with a time of 4:18.34, while Amy Hwang, Katie Lin, Lizzy Miranda and Shannon Eriksson ran at 55.66 in the shorter race.
Both the 4x400 teams recorded their best times of the season, the stated goal entering the meet for a younger squad.
"It was worth the [3-hour] drive to see what they did," track coach Jeff James said. "It was an awesome experience to participate."
