Tree Smashes Into Lake Barcroft Home, Traps Resident

Firefighters rescued a resident pinned down under a tree that had fallen into his Lake Barcroft home.

LAKE BARCROFT, VA—A large tree fell into a Lake Barcroft home and trapped a man as high winds picked up early Friday.

Firefighters responded to the 3500 block of Highview Place around 3:47 a.m. The tree had fallen into a bedroom, pinning the victim on the bed.

Crews worked to remove the part of the tree trapping the man. It took around a half hour to get him out. The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.

A building inspector was called to the scene to examine the stability of the home. The initial estimate of damages is around $80,000.

Within 12 hours (1 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday), the department has responded to 47 incidents of trees falling into homes.
