Weekend Preview: Music Acts in Annandale

Check out one of these local performances in the area this weekend

There's no need to venture out of the area to find something to do on the weekend because there's always something going on in Annandale. If you haven't made any plans yet, here are some local suggestions for you to consider.

If it's music you want, stop by Sunset Grille for two nights of entertainment. On Friday, Sept. 10 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., The Foose Bumps are returning to Sunset Grille for a night filled with rock music. The band has been on hiatus for the last three years, but are back in Annandale to fill the void left by their presence. There will be a $5 cover charge at the door and drink and food specials are available all night long.

If rock's not really your scene, Sunset Grille will have another musical performance by cover band Smylin Jack on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 2-6 p.m. Known in both Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD, Smylin Jack performs a number of 80s hair band rock songs. The band is performing an afternoon show to commemorate the anniversary of September 11. There is a $5 cover charge at the door for this show.

The Reunion Music Society and Northern Virginia Community College is holding the first of their jazz concerts starting this Sunday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. in the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center Forum at 8133 Little River Turnpike.

The concert, called "Women in Jazz: They are the Song—Music from the Heart", will feature soloists Mitra Gholam, Laila Sanie, and Gina Sobel. Each soloist will perform a variety of jazz standards and classics with instrumental jazz interludes. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors with ID. Children can attend the event for free.
