ARLINGTON, VA — One person was injured in a Crystal City apartment building fire Wednesday night, according to an Arlington County Fire & EMS spokesman.

Arlington County fire crews responded around 7:30 p.m., for the report of a fire in an apartment building in the 300 block of 23rd Street S. They located the fire in a third floor apartment and encountered a significant amount of smoke conditions in the hallway, according to Lt. Nate Hiner, a department public information officer.

"The bulk of the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, and crews then engaged in significant salvage and overhaul operations," Hiner said.

One civilian was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire brought more than 20 fire and rescue units to the scene, including some from the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority and Alexandria City fire departments.

As fire personnel worked to extinguish the fire, all of the residents of the building were evacuated. They were able to return to their apartments at 10:30 p.m. Residents of two department were displaced due to the fire, according to Hiner.

Inspectors from the Fire Prevention Office are still working to determine the cause of the fire and the estimated damage has not been determined.
