2 Arlington Libraries Closed For COVID-19 Set To Reopen Tuesday

Correction: This story has been corrected to show that the Cherrydale and Glencarlyn branches are reopening on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

ARLINGTON, VA — Book lovers in Arlington rejoice. Two neighborhood library branches are set to reopen on Tuesday after being closed last year due to the pandemic and a hiring freeze, according to a release from the Arlington Public Library.

“The Library continues to make steady progress toward filling an unprecedented number of public service vacancies caused by the pandemic and subsequent hiring freeze," said Arlington Public Library Director Diane Kresh. "We believe we are turning the corner and look forward to seeing more of our patrons."

Both the Cherrydale (2190 Military Road) and Glencarlyn (300 S Kensington St.) branches will reopen for patrons on Tuesday. In addition, indoor storytelling programs will return to the two branches starting Sept. 13.

Cherrydale and Glencarlyn rejoin the five other branches that are currently open: Aurora Hills, Central, Columbia Pike, Shirlington and Westover. Only the Plaza branch will remain closed to allow for an upcoming renovation and expansion.

Patrons can visit the seven operating library branches during the following hours:

• Monday and Tuesday: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
• Wednesday and Thursday: 12–7 p.m.
• Friday and Saturday: 12-5 p.m.

While the Center for Local History at the Central Library is open, the public must schedule an appointment to visit the center.

The Arlington Public Library follows the county's COVID-19 guidance for those visiting indoor public places. Everyone 2 and older who is not fully vaccinated must wear a mask.
