2 Charged With Assaulting A Police Officer: Report

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police are investing two recent incidents in which two individuals were charged with assault & battery on a police officer, according to the daily crime report.

In the first incident, officers were dispatched around 4:02 a.m., Thursday, to Washington Boulevard at N. Glebe Road for the report of a suspicious person acting aggressively to a passerby. After making contact with the individual, who was standing in the roadway, the officers moved him to the sidewalk. While they were speaking to the man, he repeatedly tried to walk into the street as traffic was passing.

The officers took the man to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation, where he acted disorderly and hit an officer with a closed fist multiple times. With the help of other officers, police placed the suspect into handcuffs. One of the officers suffered minor injuries requiring medical attention.

ACPD arrested John Steele, 24, of no fixed address, and charged him with assault & battery on police.

In the second case, officers were dispatched around 12:13 a.m., Friday, to the 200 block of N. Glebe Road, for the report of a larceny. A lookout was issued and officers found an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area. During the investigation, the man denied stealing anything and started to walk away. When an officer tried to stop him, the man became combative and threw liquid on the officers, before fleeing on foot. The officer caught the man and took him into custody with the help of other officers.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for medical clearance. According to police, he continued to act disorderly and refused to get into a transport vehicle. Multiple officers lifted the man into the vehicle, during which he bit an officer.

ACPD arrested Deandre Davis, 39, of Arlington, and charged him with two counts of assault & battery on police, obstruction of justice, petit larceny: shoplifting, and drunk in public. Davis is being held without bond.
