3 Killed, 1 Critically Injured In I-395 Crash At Shirlington Road Exit: Police

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Three people died and a fourth remained hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a police pursuit from Alexandria ended in a crash on the Interstate 395 exit ramp at Shirlington Road early Monday, Virginia State Police said.

All four occupants are believed to be juveniles, according to state police, who are investigating the crash.

The pursuit began after a trooper spotted a vehicle reported stolen from Prince George’s County, Maryland, at about 12:45 a.m. Monday on Stevenson Road at South Walker Street in Alexandria, police said.

The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit, according to police.

The vehicle entered northbound I-395 and attempted to take the Shirlington Road exit at a high rate of speed, police said. The driver lost control on the exit ramp, and the vehicle ran off the right side and struck a Jersey wall.

Troopers and personnel from Arlington County police and fire and rescue, along with Alexandria police and fire and rescue, provided emergency medical care to the occupants.

One passenger died at the scene. The driver and two other passengers were taken to area hospitals, where the driver and a second passenger died, police said. The remaining passenger was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
