ARLINGTON, VA — A late birthday gift turned out to be a half-a-million dollar bonanza for one Maryland woman, according to a release from the Virginia Lottery.

Elizabeth Coker-Nnam's brother bought her a Premier Cash Scratcher ticket from the Virginia Lottery at B. O. B. #41, located in the Pentagon in Arlington. He then gave the ticket to his sister as belated birthday gift. She put it away, intending to scratch it later.

A few weeks passed and Coker-Nnam was talking to her brother on the phone, when she took out the ticket, scratched, and discovered she'd won $500,000.
