70% of Commuters Ditch Metro ... And WMATA Still Has Trouble Keeping Up [VIDEO]

Metro riders are clearly doing everything they can to avoid taking the Metro during the latest Surge, but huge lines are still a problem.

It appears that Metro riders have taken WMATA's advice to just stop using their rail service altogether during the latest "Surge" in South Arlington, but it doesn't appear to be enough to keep massive lines from forming.

Surge 3 has resulted in the total shutdown of the line segment between Braddock Road and Reagan National Airport on the Yellow and Blue lines, forcing riders to catch a shuttle or bus to a nearby station in order to complete their journey. Metro reported that about 70 percent of the riders most impacted by the surge "adjusted their commute" -- i.e., ditched the rail service and figured out some other way to get to work (or just stayed home).

So surely that should be a relief for Metro, which must now be able to easily handle the traffic when only 30 percent of the usual traffic shows up -- except that's not how it's turning out at all.
