Alexandria Teen Arrested On Carjacking, Firearm Charges In Arlington

An 18-year-old Alexandria woman was charged with carjacking in Arlington on Wednesday after an incident in Pentagon City, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — An 18-year-old Alexandria woman was arrested on charges of carjacking in Arlington on Wednesday night after an incident in Pentagon City where she got into the driver’s seat of a car and pulled a gun on the owner of the car, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, police were dispatched to the intersection of 12th Street S. and S. Fern Street in Arlington. When officers arrived, they were flagged down by a man who said he left his unlocked car idling in the 700 block of 12th Street S. as he entered a business.

When he left the business, he saw the woman getting into the driver’s seat of his car. He ran over and got into the passenger’s seat of his car. He told the woman to get out. Instead of getting out of the car, she drove off quickly, police said.

The two argued inside the car and then the woman pulled out a gun and threatened the man, according to police.

The woman and man physically struggled inside the car as the woman continued to drive. She eventually struck an unoccupied parked vehicle, police said.

The woman got out of the car and fled the scene. Police officers searched the area and found her. She was then taken into custody without incident. When they searched her, police found a firearm and narcotics, police said.

The arrest of the woman was caught on video by reporter Dave Statter of STATter911.

The victim suffered minor injuries in the carjacking, but he declined medical attention at the scene.

Mkyah Hatfield, 18 of Alexandria, was charged with carjacking, abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of schedule I/II narcotics and possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, police said. She was held without bond.
