Amazon Fresh In Crystal City Closes Door For Good: Report

ARLINGTON, VA — Customers going to the Amazon Fresh in Crystal City to buy a gallon of milk will be in for a surprise. The store closed its doors for good on Sunday afternoon, according to news reports.

Multiple readers told ARLNow about the closing, which triggered a massive sale of the store's products at reduced prices. Employees also were told that the company would find them employment at other Amazon Fresh locations in the area.

An Amazon spokesman told ARLNow that the store located at 1550 Crystal Drive in Crystal City was closing to allow the company to focus on its larger format stores.

The Amazon Fresh in Crystal City opened in July 2022, offering a wide selection of national brands and produce, meat and seafood, as well as a range of prepared foods made fresh in the store every day.

The store also offered customers "Just Walk Out Shopping," which allowed customers to skip the checkout line via the Amazon app.

Every time a customer took an item off the store shelves, it was added to their virtual shopping cart. Anything they returned to the shelves was taken out of their cart. Once they finished shopping, customers used Amazon One, a credit or debit card, or the In-Store QR code in the app when exiting the store.
