ARLINGTON, VA — Two Arlington schools were briefly placed on lockdown Friday after receiving threats, authorities said.
According to Arlington County police, Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Alice Fleet Elementary School were both placed on lockdown around noon after the schools reported receiving threats via telephone.
The lockdowns were lifted about 30 minutes later after officers searched the schools and couldn't find evidence of a crime.
Authorities did not release details about the nature of the threats.
"Officers will maintain a visible presence near the schools out of an abundance of caution," Arlington police said in a statement. "Investigation into the source of the telephone threat is ongoing."
