Arlington Boy Scout Troop 638 Holds Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Troop 638 Eagle Scout Court of Honor

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held on 9 June 2018 for Owen Gorman, Aubrey Bouchoux, Jack Durham, Tim Kent, Ben Mundt, and Michael Mellett (who appear left to right in the above picture). With the exception of Ben, all are recent graduates of Yorktown High School. Ben just graduated from HB Woodlawn. All are members of Boy Scout Troop 638 affiliated with the Little Falls Presbyterian Church (LFPC) in Arlington.

Owen’s Eagle Scout project involved removing and rebuilding trail steps surrounding the LFPC’s outdoor chapel. They also trimmed the trails, removed invasive vines, and installed a stone bench. Aubrey’s project involved designing and building an outdoor garden learning lab for Arlington Montessori House pre-schoolers. This provided a hands-on learning environment for children to learn about and practice planting, growing, and maintaining vegetable and flower garden beds. Jack and his Eagle project crew built a lockable firewood shed at the Gulf Branch Nature Center. This met the Nature Center’s need for a place to store firewood, cut from downed trees. Tim and his crew built a 10 foot by 12 foot sandbox for Tuckahoe Elementary school in Arlington for use by the students and after school program. After constructing the frame, it was filled with pea gravel instead of sand to reduce the spreading of germs.

Ben and his crew planned, designed, and built a staircase in the outdoor classroom courtyard at Tuckahoe Elementary, his former school. Michael’s project created raised garden beds for the fifth-grade science class at Glebe Elementary School, enabling students to understand experiments involving plant growth and natural cycles. They created a mix of small and large beds, and added a small wall to keep the sidewalk clean of mulch.
