Arlington Coronavirus Update: 12 Additional Cases, No New Death​s

Virginia Department of Health confirmed 12 additional cases of the new coronavirus in the Arlington Health District on Thursday.

ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported no new deaths due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, Thursday in the Arlington Health District. The last new death was reported on Wednesday. The total of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District stands at 146.

Virginia health officials reported 12 new cases Thursday of COVID-19 in Arlington. This is down from the 20 new cases reported on Wednesday. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 3,791.

To date, there have been 491 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in Arlington.

As of Thursday morning , there have been 137,460 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 2,920 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 10,464 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

VDH reported Thursday that 59,407 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 4.3 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 1,960,918 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 6.8 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

There have been 19 outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Thursday, with 575 cases related to an outbreak, with two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings. There have been 208 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.

Globally, more than 29.9 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 941,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 6.6 million people have been infected and over 196,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
