Arlington County Sends Thousands of Faulty Voting Cards to Residents

County officials are apologizing and sending out new voter cards with the correct precinct information.

ARLINGTON, VA — Thousands of voters in Arlington were sent voter cards with incorrect polling place information, and authorities are scrambling to fix the issue.

The official Twitter feed for the Arlington Elections Office apologized Oct. 12 to voters in the Crystal City, Wilson and Abindon precincts. "Mailroom printed voter cards wrong," the tweet states. "Corrections being sent soon!"

The snafu comes just four weeks before Election Day on Nov. 8. Virginia is a vital state that either candidate could win, and Hillary Clinton will need Arlington's votes if she hopes to carry the state's 13 electoral votes.

The Washington Post reported that the mistake affects about 9,000 Arlington County voters. New, corrected voter cards will be sent out with a letter of apology. The original voter cards sent all voters to Lyon Park Community Center.

The polling place for these precincts are different from last year because of construction at the normal sites, according to the report.
