Arlington Flood Resilience: 3 Events Coming Soon
Arlington is hosting three events on the subject of flood resiliency during the week of Oct. 21 through Oct. 27.
ARLINGTON, VA — In the aftermath of a series of flash floods in Arlington during July, the county is holding three free events during the week of Oct. 21 through Oct. 27 focused on flood mitigation and safety efforts.
The events will teach residents how to make their property more flood resilient, strategies to reducing your risk from experiencing a flash flood, and the proper ways to handle flood insurance.
"Arlington is working toward flooding resilience through defining balance between private and public responsibility; scaling levels of flood protect and mitigation; and needs based investment," according to the county's web page.

The first workshop, "How to Navigate Disaster in Business" will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for business owners looking to learn how to respond to a range of crisis, including flooding.

- Workshop #2, Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6:30-8:30 p.m at Arlington Central Library (1015 N. Quincy Street). The event will focus on flood insurance eligibility and what kind of damages the county covers.
- Workshop #3, Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at George Mason University (3351 Fairfax Drive). The event will cover the same subjects as the second workshop.
The flash floods that occurred in Arlington during July caused nearly $6 million in damage to county-owned property.
