Arlington Makes Decision On March 1 School Schedule
BREAKING: With snow and sleet headed our way Friday, March 1, local officials have made a decision on the school schedule.
ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County school officials have delayed the start of classes on Friday, March 1, due to forecasts that the area will be hit with snow, sleet or freezing rain overnight, with 2 to 4 inches of snow possible.
Arlington County Public Schools made the announcement shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday. Schools officials said:
"APS Operations Update for Friday, March 1, 2019: Based on the current weather forecast and conditions for tomorrow morning, APS will open schools and offices two hours late tomorrow. The Extended Day program will also open two hours late and morning field trips are canceled. Essential personnel and food service workers should report to work at their scheduled time. All other employees should report to work two hours past their usual start time. We will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions throughout the County overnight. If we decide that conditions require us to close, we will update everyone before 6 a.m."

State transportation officials are urging residents to work from home if they can telecommute. "If you plan on commuting Friday morning, be aware of the potential for travel disruptions," the special weather statement said. "Plan ahead by allowing for extra travel time, and consider using public transportation and telework options."
Snow will begin overnight and taper off after sunrise on Friday, March 1, according to the National Weather Service. Snow will mix with sleet early Friday morning, forecasters said. The winter weather advisory takes effect at 10 p.m. Thursday and runs until 10 a.m. Friday.
