Arlington National Cemetery Beefing Up Security

The enhanced security will include random ID checks and additional screening.

ARLINGTON, VA — If you're planning a visit to Arlington National Cemetery soon, be prepared for extra security, including ID checks and additional screening.

Arlington National Cemetery announced that it is phasing in "enhanced security measures" for cemetery visitors. The new measures would be similar to ones at museums in the National Capitol Region.

In addition to ID checks, all vehicle access to the cemetery will require valid government-issued photo ID, and vehicles are subject to random inspections.

Pedestrians may only enter at set access points, which will be at the cemetery's main entrance on Memorial Avenue, Ord & Weitzel Gate and the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Old Post Chapel Gate.

Visitors who don't have bags will get to go through an express screening line.
