The incident started before noon. Both police and fire personnel are on the scene, as negotiators try to persuade the person to leave the home peacefully, ARLnow reported.

The road closures forced Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Alice West Fleet Elementary School, located next to each other on 2nd Street South, to change how students were released from school Friday afternoon.

"The ACPD will be assisting students who live in the vicinity of S. Fillmore and S. 2nd St. There is no ongoing threat to either school community," Arlington Public Schools said.
