ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police arrested a Chantilly man Tuesday night after he fled a traffic stop on Interstate 66, injuring a police officer in the process, according to the daily crime report.

Around 4:35 p.m., an ACPD motor officer initiated a traffic stop eastbound on I-66 at Spout Run Parkway. The officer had observed the vehicle traveling 88 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. During the stop, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He then asked the driver to exit the vehicle in order to sign a summons.

At first, the driver complied, but he became uncooperative and tried to reenter the vehicle after being told not to. A struggle ensued and the officer warned the driver he was going to deploy OC Spray (pepper spray) if the driver continued to ignore his orders. Although the officer used the spray, the driver was able to reenter the vehicle and drive away, dragging the officer a short distance. The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated by medics on the scene. A lookout was issued and multiple units conducted a search, but they failed to locate the vehicle.
