Arlington Restaurant Violations: Roach, Mouse Droppings At Ice Berry
Arlington County reported violations at Ice Berry and Ballston Place Gourmet, according to inspections on June 30-July 3.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County regularly conducts inspections of local restaurants. Reports are generally posted about a week after the inspection. We've listed the two restaurants with some of the most serious or interesting violations -- including a staggering 12 violations at Ice Berry -- from inspections at Arlington restaurants on June 30-July 3, the most recent dates available.

Critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A food employee was observed using bare hands contact with RTE potato salad. The PIC discarded the touched food.
Critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Observed chlorine above 200 ppm in a chemical sanitizing bucket. The PIC diluted the concentration to 50ppm.

Non-critical violation: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A food employee was observed cleaning their hands in the three compartment sink. The PIC was educated and trained that hands can only be washed in a designated handwashing sink.
Non-critical violation: Observation: After use, the mop is not placed in a position that allows it to air-dry without soiling walls, equipment, or supplies.

Critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): The food establishment is not under the immediate control of a Northern Virginia certified food manager.
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): Insect, rodent, and/or other pest harborage conditions were observed on the premises (roach droppings observed on wall and right side of drain shelf board; mouse droppings in storage room).
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): Container of sugar is not identified with the common name of the food.
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): Food preparation and dispensing utensils are improperly stored (sugar scoop handle found in product).
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): A food temperature measuring device is not provided and readily accessible for use in ensuring attainment and maintenance of food temperatures.
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): The right side of the hand sink counter cabinetry lower wall is not maintained in a state of repair and condition that meets the requirements of materials for construction and repair and/or design.
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): The three part sink is not in good repair (right sink basin drain pipe is missing and missing two properly fitting stoppers).
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): The outside dumpster is not maintained in good repair (dirty and leaking waste onto the pavement); shall be replaced.
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): Exposed tubes run along the floor from the yogurt machines to the three part sink floor drain.
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): The outer openings of the food establishment are not protected against the entry of insects and rodents (air gaps around front door).
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): The light intensity is below 20 foot candles in the upright "Superior" two door refrigerator.
Non-critical violation: Observation (REPEAT): Ceiling, walls, and floor in the storage room are not maintained in good repair.
