Arlington Seeks to Add a Connector Path to W&OD Trail
Arlington is seeking permission from NVRPA to build a connector trail that will provide new access to the W&OD trail.
Arlington County is hoping to add an eight-foot wide connector path to the Washington & Old Dominion Trail (W&OD) from N. Carlin Springs Road (see map).
Arlington is seeking permission from W&OD trail owner Northern Virginia Regional Parks Authority (NVRPA) to build the eight-foot wide connector trail that will provide new access to the trail. The County Manager is recommending that the Board approve the letter of permission and also approve a consent agreement for right of way encroachment with Virginia Electric Power Company. The W&OD trail stretches from Arlington to Purcellville in Loudoun County.

There is no compensation being paid to NVRPA or Dominion Virginia Power for the agreements, the county says. The County must pay a $500 impact and processing fee to DVP associated with the consent agreement. Maintenance of the connector trail will be the responsibility of the Department of Parks and Recreation.
The preliminary cost estimates for the new connector path are $50,000 with construction beginning in the fall, according to Jessica Baxter, communications specialist, Arlington County Department of Environmental Services.
