Armed Man Bursts Into Arlington Home: Police

Police say the man stole cash and property before fleeing, and they later arrested a suspect.

ARLINGTON, VA -- It was a frightening Sunday afternoon for residents in a neighborhood near Rosslyn after an armed man invaded a home, and a suspect was later arrested.

Police were called to the 2100 block of N. Troy Street shortly before 5 p.m. for a report of a home invasion, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

"Upon arrival, it was determined that the victims were inside their residence when they heard a loud noise and went to investigate," the report states. "The victims then encountered an unknown suspect brandishing a firearm. The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash and personal property before fleeing the scene on foot."

Police set up a perimeter and broadcast a description of the suspect. Officers spotted someone matching the description walking on the Custis Trail, and arrested him without incident.

Police charged 30-year-old Angelo Shepherd of D.C. with burglary with intent to rob, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a felon, and assault.

He is being held without bond.
