ARLINGTON, VA — A 50-year-old Arlington man is facing abduction by force and multiple assault charges in connection to an incident that occurred Monday afternoon at Virginia Square home, according to authorities.

Arlington County police and fire personnel responded around 4:30 p.m. to investigate the report of an intoxicated man inside a residence in the 3800 block of Seventh Street North.

"The suspect became agitated, did not cooperate with medics and blocked the public safety personnel from exiting the apartment," according to the incident report. "The suspect then became aggressive towards medics and the officer intervened by attempting to detain him. The suspect was noncompliant, struck the officer and attempted to disarm the officer of his firearm."

With the help of additional police officers, the suspect was taken into custody, according to the report. No injuries were reported.

Police arrested and charged Christopher Rowland of Arlington with assault on police, two counts of assault and battery, attempted disarming of a law enforcement officer, abduction, and obstruction of justice, according to ACPD. He was then held without bond.

Rowland was arraigned Tuesday morning in Arlington General District Court and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on March 26, according to court documents. As of Tuesday afternoon, he remained in police custody.

The most serious charge Rowland faces is abduction by force/intimidation, which is a Class 5 felony. If he is found guilty of this charge he faces a potential sentence of one to 10 years in prison or up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.
