Assault & Battery Charge Made After Parking Dispute Escalates

ARLINGTON, VA — A dispute over a parking spot in Shirlington escalated into multiple charges being filed against a Maryland man Sunday, according to the daily crime report.

Around 11:41 a.m., Arlington County Police officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of 31st Street S., for the report of a person with a gun. Arriving on the scene, they learned that the victim and suspect had been involved in dispute over a parking spot. After the victim had parked his vehicle, police say the suspect left his vehicle, grabbed and then assaulted the victim. The suspect then entered a residential building, but he immediately returned and pointed a firearm at the victim. The suspect then fled back into the building.

The officers obtained a description of the suspect from the victim. They were able to locate the suspect and took him into custody. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

ACPD arrested Desmond Young, 30, of Fort Washington, Maryland, and charged him with strangulation, brandishing a firearm and assault & battery.
