Assault On Police Charge Filed Against 39-Year-old Arlington Man: ACPD

A 39-year-old Arlington man was arrested after he took merchandise from a store and assaulted an ACPD officer, according to police.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 39-year-old Arlington man faces multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer, after he was arrested in connection with a reported larceny at a business on Columbia Pike, according to Arlington County Police.

Officers responded around 10:39 p.m., on Saturday, for the report of a larceny in progress at a store in the 4900 block of Columbia Pike.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a man entered the business, took items and tried to leave without paying. When an employee confronted him, the man shoved the employee, took additional items and then left the store on foot, according to police.

After a lookout was broadcast, the arriving officer spotted a man nearby who matched the description of the suspect. When the officer tried to detain the man, he resisted and assaulted the officer, according to police. With the help of other officers who'd arrived on the scene, the suspect was taken into custody.

Both the officer and the man, whom police identified as Anthony Jeffers Jr. of Arlington, were injured, but they did not require medical attention. During the arrest, officers recovered suspected narcotics.

ACPD charged Jeffers with assault on police, robbery, assault and battery, obstruction of justice and possession of Schedule I/II narcotics. He was then held without bond.
