Axe-Wielding Man Arrested For Destruction Of Property In Ballston

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police arrested an axe-wielding man late Saturday afternoon for damaging a Ballston business.

Officers responded around 5:25 p.m., for the report of the destruction of property at a business in the 4200 block of Fairfax Drive.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a man who had previously been banned from the business returned and went behind the counter, prompting an employee to call the police.

Walking toward the exit, the man produced an axe from inside of a backpack and used it to cause damage by striking a display case, according to police. The man then left the scene on foot.

After broadcasting a lookout, ACPD officers saw a man running in the area. After following him on foot, the officers took the man into custody in the 900 block of N. Stuart Street. The officers recovered the axe and arrested 18-year-old Daryl Palmer of no fixed address.

Facing charges of attempted robbery, destruction of property, possession of burglarious tools, and trespassing, Palmer was held without bond.
