Bottles Thrown From Arlington Balcony Shatter Occupied Vehicle's Windshield

ARLINGTON, VA — A 24-year-old Maryland man is facing multiple felony charges after police said he threw glass bottles from a residential balcony in Arlington, striking an occupied vehicle and shattering its rear windshield.

Arlington County police responded just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday, to the 3100 block of 10th Street North to investigate a disorderly conduct report.

Investigators reported that Peter McCourt Sullivan, 24, of Bethesda, Maryland, threw glass bottles from a residential balcony. Police said the bottles struck an occupied parked vehicle, causing its rear windshield to shatter. No injuries were reported.

Responding officers identified Sullivan as the suspect and took him into custody at the scene, according to police.

Court Records Show Four Felony Charges

Sullivan was charged with throwing a missile into an occupied vehicle, two counts of reckless endangerment by throwing objects from a high place, felony destruction of property and misdemeanor destruction of property, according to police and Arlington General District Court records.

Court records identify the occupied-vehicle charge as a Class 4 felony under Virginia Code § 18.2-154.

The two charges related to throwing objects from a high place are each listed as Class 6 felonies under Virginia Code § 18.2-51.3.

Sullivan also faces a Class 6 felony destruction-of-property charge and a Class 1 misdemeanor destruction-of-property charge.

Although police reported taking Sullivan into custody Saturday, court records list his arrest date as Sunday. The five cases were filed Monday. Court records show Sullivan has been released on his own recognizance.

An arraignment Monday was continued. Preliminary hearings on the felony charges are scheduled for Nov. 12 in Arlington General District Court. Most are set for 11:30 a.m., while one of the reckless-endangerment cases is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. The misdemeanor case is scheduled for an adjudicatory hearing at 11:30 a.m. that day.

Sullivan has not been convicted of the charges. The allegations remain pending in court.
