Big Weather Changes On The Way For Virginia, DC

After icy mixes in recent days, the weather changes significantly for the weekend and beyond. Here are the latest details.

WASHINGTON, DC — After intermittent icy mixes of snow, sleet and freezing rain in the past week, northern Virginia and The District are in store for a warmer weekend, but one that will feature a lot of rain. The National Weather Service says the soggy weather should begin Saturday afternoon, and then predicts rain chances every day through Tuesday.

But the precipitation will all fall as rain, as temps start to moderate Saturday with daytime highs hitting the 50s and 60s this weekend and much of next week. "Temperatures will be more seasonable today, but so will sky cover... that is, it will be cloudier than yesterday. Even milder over the weekend, but rain is likely at times," the National Weather Service says.

Get your outdoor chores done today, urges The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang. "Enjoy the dry weather. Once rain starts back up, we may stay generally wet into early next week. It’s good news for our continuing drought — the weekend rains should total at least an inch. Two inches is not completely out of the question, either. Snow lovers, you may be disheartened by Sunday’s mugginess."
