Bloomers, Undergarment Retailer, Closes Shirlington Village Store

Last day was Friday, Oct. 3; owners say on Facebook "we'll get back to our roots" at original store in Old Town Alexandria.

Anyone walking past the Bloomers store in Arlington’s Shirlington Village will be surprised to see an empty store with nary an upscale undergarment or luxe pajama set to be found.

Patrons of Shirlington’s Oktoberfest on Saturday were milling about near the storefront at 4150 Campbell Ave., balancing their brews and bratwurst. Behind them, empty shelves could be seen behind the Bloomers plate glass window. The location was home to Bloomers for the past three years.

Bloomers’ original location, at 924 King St. in Old Town Alexandria, launched in 2008 and will remain there, according to a post on its Facebook page.

“We’ve decided not to renew our lease in Shirlington and get back to our roots in Old Town Alexandria. Bloomers in the Village of Shirlington is closing its doors on October 15. To say goodbye, we are holding a store-wide sale. Everything in the Shirlington store is on sale (50-70% off), including the furniture. After October 15, you can still get your Bloomers fix by visiting the Old Town Alexandria store.”

The Shirlington store closed Friday, Oct. 3.
