One Dead, Three Injured in Buckingham Shooting

Two officers injured. Shooting on Second Road North, according to Arlington County Police.

A man is dead after being shot in the chest Tuesday by an Arlington County police officer during an altercation at the man’s residence in the Buckingham neighborhood, according to Dustin Sternbeck, Arlington County Police spokesman.

The man was reportedly fighting with his 88 year old mother and a neighbor called police, according to a report by NBC-4.

The man, Alfredo Rials-Torres, 54, died after county personnel tried life-saving measures at the scene and after he was taken to Virginia Hospital Center, Sternbeck said. Rials-Torres reportedly attacked the police officers who arrived shortly before 11 a.m.

The incident took place in the 4200 block of Second Road North in Arlington’s Buckingham neighborhood at the Gates of Ballston apartment building.

Three others were injured in the Tuesday morning incident, including Rials-Torres’ mother, who was treated for injuries and was questioned at Arlington Police headquarters. Sternbeck said he was not certain what prompted the domestic incident at the residence.

Two officers were injured, but not critically, Sternbeck said; one officer had surgery after suffering a facial laceration. Sternbeck was not sure how he received the facial injury. Another officer was Tasered during the incident, Sternbeck said.
