Destruction Of Arlington Overpass Begins Tuesday
The South Clark Street overpass in Crystal City is finally coming down.

ARLINGTON, VA -- The destruction of the South Clark Street overpass in Crystal City begins this week, Arlington County's Department of Environmental Services tweeted.
"The elevated South Clark Street overpass dating back to Crystal City's Paleozoic era starts coming down - sadly without explosives," they wrote. "Watch for traffic adjustments and trilobite fossils."
The tweet stated that the bridge will start coming down Monday, but the project website states it won't begin until Tuesday. Expect periodic eastbound and westbound detours on 15th Street at Clark Street and Route 1 for about two weeks while the project goes on.

From July 17-18, there will be a detour on eastbound 15th Street South, and from July 19-26 there will be a detour on westbound 15th Street South.
On the last two days of work, July 25-26, drivers should expect "occasional 15-minute closures of both directions of 15th Street South at Clark Street," the project website states. "Flaggers will be in place to help direct traffic around the closure."
